Seed Hackers

Bryan Robinson

Bryan has spent his entire adult life preaching the gospel of online to the newspaper industry. He attempts on a daily basis to save journalism, despite journalism’s masochistic tendencies to fight against said help.

UX, Content and Product strategy are his current loves, as is leveraging his philosophy degree to help shape meetings, products and strategy. He also is a skilled interaction designer and is capable of making personas, IA schema and heuristic assessments.

He is a proficient front-end developer, skilled in HTML, CSS and jQuery. He’s spent the past 4 years honing his skills in the Python-powered framework Django.

Derick Prize

Hey, I’m Derick Prize and I have a crush on the internet. I love hacking on anything web-related and I’m always learning about the newest technologies. I can do this for hours because I love it so much. I really like learning, I have a little thing for the web, and it’s about time I do something with that. Becoming a Seed Hacker was clearly the way to go.

My development decisions are based on what the user wants not what I want. I can do HTML(5), CSS(3), Javascript, Node.js, and PHP. That also includes some fancy libraries for those languages. (jQuery, Express.js, CodeIgniter, etc)

James F. Ruffer III

I believe, that being a computer geek is not only fun but a life style. No, I am not the revenge of the nerd’s kind of guy. I just love learning a lot of new things and testing the integrity of technologies. BUT I cannot sit in front of computer without human interaction. The best description of me was given at a conference. “James has ADD with OCD! He is constantly changing what he is obsessed about…” So, how does someone find an equilibrium of these two things in a career? Become Entrepreneurial. Take the bull by the horns and put him down.

Specialties include the following: C|EH, WordPress MU, Social Media Geek, Hootsuite Expert, Facebook Designer, Seesmic user, Sproutsocial user, Marketmesuite user, BSD Administration, Linux Administration, Windows Administration, MySQL, Security Engineering, Security Architecture, Encryption Architecture, Penetration Testing, Apache, Java/PERL/Bash/PHP code review

Dan Price

Dan has been in Memphis for just about 8 years. He grew up in Philadelphia and has had the ultimate pleasure of living in New Jersey. (Jealous, I know.) He works in advertising. It’s like Mad Men but without the cigarettes and only slightly less booze. And way fewer skinny ties. Dan’s a writer but doesn’t like to pin himself down with silly words like that.

What’s he good at? Writing (you’d hope so, right?), advertising, branding, positioning, information architecture, content organization, and that “pew pew” laser sound in PowerPoint.

What’s that all mean? It means he can name your company, carve out your market space, or craft you some killer collateral — all while talking to your audience with intrigue, tact, and a little personality.

What else? He’s written acclaimed presentations for Fortune 100 companies, created award-winning stop motion videos, and built a full-size arcade machine from scratch. He lives right down the street from the Launchpad and has a cocktail Rolodex longer than the contacts list on his iPhone. Hey, it’s not a problem — it’s a hobby.

Mike Rowe

I spent entirely too long in school. Luckily, having done so provided me with a rather interesting tool set. I bounced around in psychology from occupational safety to persuasion to memory, finally settling on learning and games. My doctoral dissertation was a boardgame designed to help kids master difficult reading skills.

After graduate school, I did research and design for a Memphis-based online social network start-up. I also began learning project management at the same time. I continued my design/project management roll at MarksMenus. I currently work at the University of Memphis managing an educational evaluation project for the Smithsonian.

Tim Laughlin
As a lifelong Memphian Tim has worked for many of the top companies that call Memphis their home. Starting as an intern at FedEx at 16 years old, he rode the wave of the internet age and brought business applications out of stone age mainframes into the browser over the course of his 10 years there. As a constant observer, at FedEx he learned from very talented business minds about strategy and the importance of selling value in products or services.

Furthering his career he continued web application development in the public internet space until he designed a large scale Learning Management System with the team at LunaWeb and OrgWide. He is currently a Sr. Designer/Engineer at Vanick Group working with their award winning team designing, developing, and managing small and large scale sites and applications.

His passion is for simple, efficient, and creative user experiences that leverage as many beneficial avenues of the internet as possible without distracting from the core message or product. Tim also consults on IT strategy, specifically effective utilization and efficiency of software as well as SEO optimization and the leveraging of social media for large companies.

Ella Hernandez

DESIGN is essential! My name is Ella, and I’ve been an artist/graphic designer in Memphis since 2007. I graduated from University of Houston with a B.A. in Communications/Advertising and a minor in studio art. Since then I’ve had art shows and designed for many local businesses. My specialty involves logo design, print design, and illustrations. While working with another Seed Hatchery business, I learned that sometimes you get bogged down with all the technical stuff that your brain gets drained of creativity. I get it, you have a lot on your mind. Let me help your business make a statement by watering and shining it with the necessary splash of design which can further your brand and ideas.
